At Woodhouse, we provide a fantastic education for around 450 children from across the Quinton and Harborne area in Birmingham. Our spacious, well equipped classrooms are steeped in learning, happiness and success. We are proud of the heritage and community of our diverse school, with a wide range of home languages, religions and cultures. Our school is proud to be part of the University of Wolverhampton Multi Academy Trust.
The children of Woodhouse are at the heart of all we do. Our children are taught by a dedicated and highly skilled staff team who enable them to experience learning opportunities of the highest calibre. We work hard with the families in our school community to enable every child to achieve their fullest potential. Through skilled teaching, intervention and support, we make sure that we get the best out of every child.
At Woodhouse, we have high academic expectations. Academic achievement is important and we work hard to help children attain high standards so that they are well prepared for the next stage of their education. The children are well equipped to succeed in our core learning. They learn to love reading and writing, to fluently solve mathematical problems and to investigate and develop their scientific understanding.
We provide an exciting, broad and balanced curriculum which inspires and motivates our pupils with opportunities to promote independence, learn life-long skills and to have aspirations for the future. Within a caring and nurturing environment, we ensure all our pupils are equipped with the skills, self-confidence and opportunities to succeed. We provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities to enable all children to find and develop the skills, interests and expertise they have.
We are proud of our outstanding sports teams and the wonderful physical education Woodhouse provides for all children. We have an outstanding sporting heritage with regular and sustained success in local and area competitions. We are highly artistic, with fantastic art and design provision which develops and nurtures the creativity and imagination of our children: the artists of tomorrow. Every child has the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, we have a range of performance opportunities in music, drama and dance. All of our children are encouraged to really shine in our regular assemblies, productions and concerts.
The children of Woodhouse are our greatest asset and we work hard to develop their voice as future citizens of the world.
Our democratically elected school cabinet work hard to improve our school and to get the best for all of our children. Each child in our school is represented and involved in the decision making that underpins our school.
Whether it is trying out new menu options for the school meals, learning from our local MP and elected representatives or standing up for those who want to make something better – our cabinet are dedicated and committed to getting the best for all at Woodhouse.
We also develop young leaders through additional responsibility. Our head boy, head girl and our team of prefects act as role models for the school community and are our most passionate ambassadors. Their enthusiasm and pride in our school shows the impact our school has on all who come here. Some of our children are involved in our techno team, where they support the use of our range of learning technology to improve learning across the school. They work with adults to problem solve and develop provision so that we can get the best out of new and developing technologies.
We have opportunities for children to help keep our school looking its best, whilst caring for the environment. Our green team are dedicated to taking the little steps to reduce our carbon footprint, save resources and learn about how to keep our school sustainable for future generations.
Our children have a number of opportunities to develop their expertise and express themselves across the wide curriculum on offer at Woodhouse.
We are also very fortunate to have some things which not every school has access to. Our expert art and PE teachers provide a high standard of specialist provision for all of our children over each week. The interests and abilities of our children are nurtured well and our children continue to take these talents beyond school into the wider community.
We have an amazing outdoor area: Pitts Wood. This community wood is part of our school grounds and allows the children amazing learning opportunities right on the doorstep. The children undertake a range of outdoor activities, learning how to work as a team, increasing their understanding of nature and developing their green-fingered gardening skills. The children take pride in caring for the incredible natural habitat of Pitts Wood. At Woodhouse, we really value the benefits of outdoor learning as it stimulates exploration and experimentation through hands-on, real life experiences.
We are proud to run the Children’s University at Woodhouse and through our links with the University of Wolverhampton, our children get a taste of what further education could offer them. The children undertake a range of additional opportunities as they seek to achieve awards for the time they devote to their hobbies, interests and enthusiasms.
Our superb before and after school club provides an engaging, secure and happy environment for the children to be looked after outside of school hours. This weekday wrap around care provides a good value service to families across the Woodhouse school community for an additional cost.
Our inclusive school ensures that all children meet their full potential, offering specialist support where necessary. Every child at Woodhouse has their own individual needs. Some children need the challenge and nurture to develop their interests and learning to be the very best they can. We have many gifted children who we work with to ensure that they have opportunities and experiences so that they can shine.
All of our children are very carefully looked after. Some of our children need additional support to help them. They might need help with learning, with interacting with their peers or with their interactions with school. Our highly trained staff team use their experience and expertise to cater for the needs of each individual. Working alongside the families in our school community we do everything we can to get the best out of everyone.
A key part of our school is our nationally recognised provision for autistic children in our specialised resource base, the Rainbow Room. This very special part of our school caters for children with a specific need to enable them to learn and succeed in a mainstream school setting.
All children at Woodhouse are included in all that we do. They all have a crucial role to play in our school and we celebrate every step to success together as a school community. We are passionate in providing equality of opportunity for every child and enabling each of them to get the best that our school has to offer.
