Room Page
The Rainbow Room is our specialist provision within school for children who have a diagnosis of autism. The staff that work within the Rainbow Room are Miss Mason, Mrs Toy, Mrs Franklin and Mrs Wright. All staff are trained and specialise in supporting children with autism and associated diagnosis. All teaching and learning opportunities are planned with the individual in mind, ensuring tasks and resources are suitable for ability and need.
Within the Rainbow Room we enable children to access learning in a smaller, quieter environment, providing a higher level of support with the opportunity to learn at their own pace and will be encouraged to develop their skills in all areas of learning and through their own interests. Our ultimate aim is to enable children to be confident and independent learners and achieve to the best of their ability.
The morning sessions are very similar to those of a mainstream class, in that the children would be engaged in maths, English, phonics or spellings and reading activities. In the afternoons the children have PE, art and topic based activities. We also provide alternative learning opportunities that cater for children’s specific needs, such as Speech and Language, sensory activities and PSHE.
We strive to provide as many different experiences to suit the children’s specific needs as possible, these include weekly therapeutic sessions at the Donkey Sanctuary in Sutton Park, physiotherapy sessions, Forest School and swimming.
Where possible we participate with activities in the mainstream. All the children have the opportunity to attend assembly and will go to dinner with their mainstream peers. This supports the children when they are ready to start integrating into the mainstream classes by developing friendships and ensuring an inclusive ethos.
Parent communication is encouraged through the use of Class Dojo, an APP which can enable staff and parents to communicate and share successes and achievements easily.
Throughout the year we focus on three main themes;
All About Me – a science based topic
Dinosaurs – a history based topic
Minibeasts – a science and geography based topic
