Inclusion
SEND and Inclusion at Woodhouse Primary Academy
"...My children are both waiting for autism assessments, the support I’ve had from Ms Mason (SENDCO), has been great, her advice, tips and coffee mornings have been so helpful. I don’t feel so alone with it all now. My son N is in Reception, he absolutely adores school, if he could go 7 days a week he would! I think that from a 5 year old boy says it all! We have a weekly news letter telling us all we need to know about everything that’s happened or is coming up so we are always in the know. They give you a weekly menu so we know what the children are eating. They also inform us of all out of school activities we can benefit from also. I love the way the Nursery staff (have a real connection with my little one O, he’s quite unique and likes to live in his own little world and rather than try to make O fit in they just embrace his quirkiness and enjoy him as we do. They take the time to know O and what he likes and also to involve both his brothers too. The school is just great, the staff are fantastic and I’m so pleased my boys have the chance to grow and learn with Woodhouse Primary Academy. It’s a very special place and my boys are very happy, safe and content at school" - Parent of N and O
At Woodhouse we are proud to have a positive ethos of inclusion for all our children that have additional or differing needs. Staff strive to ensure that all children, whatever their starting point, make progress and achieve to the best of their ability.
We have a strong and successful inclusion team that work together to support the holistic needs of the child, which may include behaviour support, speech and language, academic support or social and emotional mentoring.
We also have our specialist autism provision, The Rainbow Room. Some children find mainstream provision a challenge and need a smaller class size with specific teaching methods and differentiated resources and learning opportunities. Through consultation with Senar, we are able to support some of the most vulnerable children from the local area, ensuring that they have a bespoke education tailored to their needs to enable them to have a meaningful and enjoyable time in school.
In recognition of our work around SEND and inclusion, we are honoured to have attained Flagship status, awarded by The Inclusion Quality Mark, having previously been an IQM Centre of Excellence. You can read all about this here.
